Eliminate Bad Breath with These Tips

Do you often find yourself trying to check your breath? Many American’s suffer from bad breath due to various reasons, from dental hygiene to the foods they eat. Luckily, you can kiss bad breath goodbye! There are many ways to help cut down on bad breath, all you have to do is make a few simple changes.

Increase Brushing/Flossing Frequency

A lot of patients suffer from bad breath due to dental hygiene issues. This can be easily prevented by making sure you keep up with your routine at home dental care. We recommend brushing a minimum of twice a day, using a soft toothbrush. Plaque, debris, and bacteria often get trapped between teeth also, allowing bad breath bacteria to continue to grow. Be sure to floss at least once a day, if not more to ensure you get rid of all the debris left over from eating.

Clean Your Tongue

Many patients stick to their brushing and flossing regimen but seem to forget about cleaning their tongue. Did you know bacteria can also live on your tongue? When you don’t clean your tongue properly, it allows these bacteria to grow, increasing the pungent smell. We recommend brushing your tongue at least twice a day as well; you can even buy a tongue scraper to assist with cleaning if you prefer.

Use Mouthwash

Mouthwash not only has a great smell to it, but it also helps remove bacteria, plaque, and debris from your mouth. If you don’t have the ability to clean your teeth after each meal, we recommend travel size mouthwash that can be used on the go. This can help prevent bacteria buildup and help keep your bad breath under control.

Drink More Water

Lack of saliva and dry mouth can lead directly to bad breath. Drinking water often helps wash away food particles, plaque, and bacteria, the primary causes of bad breath. If you increase your intake of water and still experience dry mouth, we recommend an appointment at Affordable Dental Clinic Greeley to see if there are any other underlying causes of the dry mouth.
